Playing Poor Mans Roulette

Bauernroulette, which means "poor mans roulette" or "farmers roulette" is a game that originated from Germany and was played by the people, mostly farmers, who could not afford to play the high stake Roulette games in casinos.

In Bauernroulette, the objective of the game is to collect as many wooden balls in specially marked areas. The one who has the most number of balls wins. Where as in Roulette, one wins by placing a bet on a number or color. While Roulette has many betting systems, Bauernroulette has only a few variations.

The layout of Bauernroulette is simple. The actual game itself consists of a spinning top and a wooden board. The game starts by spinning the top above a set of six colored balls and then dropping the top above them. The top then randomly disperses the balls into different areas of the board which count for points at the end of the game. Most points are scored by landing the balls within the chambers.

The game is very simple and entertaining to play. The players of Bauernroulette play for fun and some may indulge in some side betting. The size of the board is quite small and can be placed on any flat surface. It is about the size of a short bond paper.

The Rules of the game are played this way:

1. 6 balls are placed in the center of the board. The 6 balls are color coded. Four white, one red, and one green.

2. Position the top above the balls, spin it using your fingers, and drop it above from above.

3. Once the top hits the balls, the balls are scattered into the small chambers or hollow areas on the board.

4. Each hollow or chamber where the balls rest have a point value attached to them. Add the points together for each of the hollows. A red ball that lands in a depression doubles the number of points. On the other hand, if a green ball lands in a depression, the points are then subtracted from the total of the other five balls.

5. Balls that land outside the board cannot be put back in the game while the top is spinning.

6. A player who is able to score with all the colored and non-colored balls gets the opportunity to spin the top. The maximum number of points per game is approximately 1000 and the player that can come close to the number or close to a value agreed upon by other players wins the game.

The game is very simple to play and very entertaining. Players of all ages will have no problem learning the game and will want to keep on playing for hours.
